The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA), also known as the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) was approved by Congress in 2021. This new government business law requires that businesses register their “beneficiary information” with the government’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). The purpose is to prevent business individuals from hiding illicit activities behind shell corporations and LLCs.
