Program Details

The Fortaleza Fund is designed to give access to funding and education for immigrant entrepreneurs and small businesses in rural Colorado.

This program is dedicated to supporting diverse multicultural and multilingual businesses. We are committed to providing programming that is accessible and culturally relevant. Our definition of “immigrant” is fully inclusive to all those who are undocumented, have permanent residence, have refugee status, and those who are naturalized citizens.

Loan terms:

Loan amount: $10,000 - $50,000
Deferred Payments for up to 90 days, upon request

Miguel and Jeovana had a desire to open the first bilingual auto repair shop in Durango.

We always had a dream of owning our own shop. The First Southwest Community Fund gave us the strength and courage to go out on our own.

Through the Fortaleza Fund, they were able to secure funding for working capital and inventory. Since opening they have received nothing less than five-star reviews.

Our culture and heritage shows up in our business by attracting Hispanic people to the shop where we speak Spanish, and knowing we are able to communicate with them. Durango is a small community and there is no other shop that speaks both languages. It helps bring people in.
